Bachelor Studies

Instrumental Studies

My field of study was instrumental studies keyboard instruments, (organ and piano) at the Mozarteum University  Salzburg.

The total scope of my bachelor's degree included 8 semesters and ended with the title Bachelor of Arts.

The final examination in the central artistic subject organ and piano consisted of a public audition (approx. 45 minutes playing time) with works from the solo and chamber literature of various eras.

Summer Academy

International Summer Academy Salzburg
 

1978-1982  "Piano Master Classes" with Prof Winfried Wolf and Sergio Perticaroli

The Summer Academy was founded by Lilli Lehmann in 1916 and today organizes more than 80 master classes with outstanding teachers from the Mozarteum University and many internationally renowned lecturers.

From 1978 to 1982 I took part in the classical piano master classes of Professor Winfried Wolf and Sergio Perticaroli.

As part of the International Summer Academy I performed in two concerts. Please see below.


Professor

1978-1981  "Piano Master Classes" and Private Lessons  with Prof Winfried Wolf

 

Winfried Wolf was an Austrian pianist, composer and music teacher. He appeared as a piano soloist and worked with the Berlin Philharmonic on over 20 records with conductors such as Willem Mengelberg and Clemens Krauss. In 1934 he became a professor at the Berlin Music Academy. From 1961 to 1965, Professor Winfried Wolf taught a piano class at the Salzburg Mozarteum as a titular professor.

From 1978 to 1982 I took private piano lessons from Professor Winfried Wolf. I also took part in his master classes.

1982  "Piano Master Class" with Prof Sergio Perticaroli 

Sergio Perticaroli is a successful international musician. His concert tours have taken him throughout Europe, the USSR, the USA, Australia and Japan. He has taught since 1990 the piano specialization course at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, but also abroad, holding master classes in Saltzburg, Cleveland, Paris and Japan. “Emeritus Professor” and Accademico Effettivo of Santa Cecilia.

I received my training as a jazz pianist through the four-week Jazz Piano Summer Academy course at the University of Salzburg in 1987, through my personal friendship and the many fruitful musical conversations and lessons in jazz theory with bassist Hans Rettenbacher and saxophonist Alan Praskin and through my many jam sessions in Salzburger.

Herbie Hancock
 

Herbert Jeffrey "Herbie" Hancock is an American jazz pianist and composer, and an Academy Award and Grammy award winner. Hancock started his career with trumpeter Donald Byrd's group. He shortly thereafter joined the Miles Davis Quintet, where he helped to redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section and was one of the primary architects of the post-bop sound. In the 1970s, 

Hans Rettenbacher
 

The jazz bassist and cellist Hans Rettenbacher studied musicology and also attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston and the Oscar Peterson School in Toronto.

 

He played in the bands of saxophonist Gerd Dudek and trumpeter Manfred Schoof, as well as with Stan Getz (ts), Friedrich Gulda (p), the Hans Koller Quartet, Eric Dolphy, Fatty George, Rolf Kühn, Erwin Lehn, Don Ellis and many others

 

Alan Praskin
 

Allan born in December 17, 1948, in Los Angeles) is an American jazz musician (alto saxophone player, composer and bandleader).

Many years of musical partnership connected Praskin with the pianists Wolfgang Köhler and Larry Porter. Along with Porter, he led the Porter/Praskin quartet from 1984 to 1993. This collaboration has continued to the present time.

For many years I worked as an organist in various churches, notably in the Catholic parish of St. Martin in my hometown of Illertissen during my school days and in the parish of St. Rupert in my adopted hometown of Freilassing during my studies.

Xaver Plersch
 

1968 - 1975 Piano and Organ Lessons

 

Xaver Plersch was my first piano teacher. He He taught me to play the piano from the age of seven. He was the local organist at the parish of St. Martin in my home town of Illertissen.

 

Before he retired from his post as organist he taught me to play the organ from the age of 12.

 

From then on I took over the position of organist at the parish of St. Martin and played up to 6 church services at the weekend.

C-Course

1976 - 1978  Church Music C-Training

At the age of 16 I attended a Church music training course for part-time liturgical organists and choir directors. This course lasts two years and ends with the C-examination.

 

This degree is recognized in all German dioceses.

The training has two main focuses:

  • Choral Conducting 

  • Organ
